Description

This volume of five ELECTRONIC Skit Packages defines discipleship and helps children understand what spiritual growth is all about. As a new Christian, Harvey discovers what it means to be a “disciple” of Jesus by asking his mentor, Pastor Rufus, all sorts of questions that reflect his innocent, child-like desire to please God. This volume of Christian drama scripts is useful in teaching children how to grow spiritually, and Christian discipleship.

Skits In This Volume

  • Skit Package 1: “The Bible, God’s Book of Directions” (Psalm 119: 105)

Zelda and Harvey fail to follow the directions for their tasks and fail miserably. Eventually they ask, “Who wrote the directions for living the Christian life?” Rufus answers the question by explaining that the Bible is God’s book of directions for living, and if we read it carefully, we will live the abundant life that God designed.

  • Skit Package 2: “Forgiveness, Spiritual Breathing” (I John 1: 9)

Harvey tells a lie and experiences the struggle of trying to “get away with it” when he would rather ride Rufus’ new lawn mower than do his chores. This skit has two different endings: One in which Harvey complicates the lie by adding another one, which makes things worse; and, another ending in which he confesses and asks forgiveness. The children see the results of both a lie and the truth. Confession is compared to “spiritual breathing”; the sin is exhaled, and the forgiveness is inhaled.

  • Skit Package 3: “Prayer, Talking With God” (Matthew 6: 9-13)

Pastor Rufus teaches the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer by giving Harvey, Zelda, Clem, and Tina each a part of it to interpret. Each of the characters makes one of four “Lord’s Prayer” crafts out of cords and colored beads that represent each part. At the conclusion of the skit, the children in the audience also choose one of the crafts to make as a reminder of the four parts and as a sharing tool.

  • Skit Package 4: “Sharing The Good News” (Matthew 28: 19, 20)

Harvey is faced with a problem: what to do to cheer up his friend, Mike, whose grandma just passed away. Tina wants to give Mike a present; Zelda wants to keep him company by reading an adventure story to him; and Clem tells him she’ll bake cookies, so he will have something to look forward to. Rufus challenges Harvey to give him a gift that costs more than we can imagine, will cure his loneliness, and give him eternal life to look forward to: the gift of salvation. Harvey learns how to share his faith (to witness), then remembers the main parts of the salvation message by using the “Lord’s Prayer” beads backwards.

  • Skit Package 5: “The Church, The Bride of Christ” (Hebrews 10: 24, 25)

The children will learn that the Church is the Bride of Christ. Christians are like bridesmaids for each other in that we prepare each other for the groom. Someday, Jesus will come for His Bride, the Church, and that is what every Christian can look forward to, but until then; we are to encourage one another toward good works and spread the news of the Gospel.
